Mattie became a member of Varick A.M.E. Zion Church in Hackensack, NJ as a teenager. After joining the church she immediately began working in several ministries such as Class Leader, member of the Daughters of Conference, the Gospel Choir, co-coordinator of the Youth Fellowship, member of the Scholarship Committee and the Department of Christian Education. It was in the Departmemt of Christian Education that she dedicated more than forty years of service as a Sunday School teacher.

To honor the diligent work of Mattie as a Christian Educator and to continue to support the Department of Christian Education of Varick which she loved, we the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have intiated the Mattie Fields Scholarship. Funds from this scholarship will go to students seeking to futher their education after high school. Furthering their education can mean entering a four year college, two year college, community college, trade school or military.

We are all aware of the importance of giving our youth an opportunity to further their education, so we ask that you consider what it would mean for them to receive help in doing so. Please join us as we support our youth and continue the legacy of Mattie Fields by giving a donation to the Mattie Fields Scholarship Fund. We truly want to bless the recipients.
